FAQ

Why organic cotton?

Conventional (non-organic) cotton is one of the dirtiest crops in the world. Grown using toxic pesticides and fertilizers, the cotton carries the residue of these chemicals which are then exposed to our sensitive areas. This is increasingly linked to chronic health problems and reproductive issues.

Organic cotton is grown without these nasty chemicals, keeping you and our planet safe.

Where do we get our organic cotton from? Highly certified farms around the world including India and Turkey.

LUÜNA TAMPONS

Are they biodegradable? Our tampon cores are totally biodegradable in 4 - 6 months.

What about the wrappers? For hygiene reasons our tampons do come in a small plastic wrap. We are plastic light compared to most other brands who use plastic in their wrappers, applicators and in the tampon cores themselves but we are working on this to be 100% plastic-free in the future.

Where are they made? They are made with our production partners in Germany. We are working to bring production back to Asia like our other products to reduce our carbon footprint.

Are they certified? Yep - by the FDA, SGS and the Global Organic Textile Standard.

Which absorbency tampon should I use? Here's the technical guide:

  • Regular: 6-9 grams of menstrual blood
  • Super: 9-12 grams of menstrual blood
  •

However, we know not many of us can measure the amount of blood we lose during our period (unless you are using a cup!), so we suggest starting with Regular. Switch to Super if you need to change your tampon sooner than every 4 hours.

How often should I change my tampon? The FDA recommends that you change your tampon every 4-8 hours. You should never leave a tampon in for  more than 8 hours and always make sure to use the lightest level of absorbency possible.

Can I wear tampons at night? Yes, just change it right before you go to bed and as soon as you wake up.

What is TSS? A rare but serious disease, TSS results when normal bacteria found in our bodies—called staph and strep bacteria—multiply, overgrow, and release a poisonous toxin in our bodies. TSS has been linked to tampon use but can also occur when tampons are not used, as well as in boys and men.

    LUÜNA PADS & LINERS

What are they made of? The organic cotton top sheet and wood fluff absorbency core are made of biodegradable all-natural materials.

What about the wrappers? Like our tampons, we can't say our pads & liners are 100% plastic-free as for hygiene reasons, they come in oxybiodegradable plastic wraps. So we are plastic light compared to most other brands who use plastic in their wrappers and in the pads themselves but we are working on this to be 100% plastic-free in the future.

Where are they made? They are proudly made in China allowing us to reduce our carbon footprint and keep tight quality control.

Are they certified? Yep - by the FDA, SGS and the Global Organic Textile Standard.

    LUÜNA PERIOD CUPS

What are they made of? 100% medical grade silicone. Medical grade silicone means silicone that has been tested and approved by the FDA for biocompatibility, so is designed to be worn inside the body for long periods of time. It’s hypoallergenic, latex-free, contains no toxins, resists bacterial growth and is non-porous which makes them easy to clean.

How is silicone made? A combination of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and silicon (silicon is derived from sand, FYI).

Where are LUÜNA Cups made? They are made in China with our awesome product developers. They are certified to create medical products, so know exactly what they are doing when it comes to creating high-performing, super safe products.
